For my son's 5th birthday he wanted Toy Story. We combined western and space to get the atmosphere I was looking for. DECORATIONS: We made space costumes out of brown paper bags. Then I took black visquine and covered one of my bedrooms so it was pitch black.  I put glow in the dark stars on the ceiling and hung glow in the dark neon yellow painted styrofoam balls to look like planets.  And we put the neon (G-I-T-D) rocks on the floor for moon rocks.   We took the children in this room with their space suits on and read them a story about space.  They all thought it was so neat and everyone came out with a moon rock. Tablecloth, napkins and silverware were the toy story theme. I had set out every toy story figurine they make all over the place.  GAMES: HORSE ROPING CONTEST- Outside I had a horse made out of a sawhorse and they roped the horse. Best horse Roper got prize. DIGGING FOR GOLD - I painted small pebbles gold and pour them in a large container and added water and pennies.  The one with the most money won a prize.  MOON WALKING - Took baby formula cans and painted them white poked hole through both side and tied string slipped shoes through string and had to hold on to the strings and walk. The one who could walk the farthest won prize. Then they played in the haystack I had set out just for fun. CAKE: One side was western the other side was space.  On the western side it looked kinda like a pasture with grass and a fence, made out of clothespins that I painted brown, we put a plastic Woody figurine holding a rope in the middle of the pasture.  Then on the other side we made a big crater out of the ball pan.  It was gray with big indentions in it and we placed that on top of the sheet cake, and we put buzzlight year falling off the top of the crater. So it looked like Woody was throwing the rope to buzz to save him. It was precious. FOOD: Hotdogs and chips. GOODY BAGS: filled with moon pies, mars bars, sheriff badges filled with candy, jolly ranchers etc. I dressed my son in a plaid shirt, bluejeans, cowboy boots, cowboy hat and a sheriff badge.
