My son, Kaeden, LOVES trains and so when we were planning his 3rd birthday party, the search began for the best train theme-party. FIND LOCAL TRAIN TO RIDE - The best part about this party was that I was able to find a place locally that would allow us to have our birthday party at the train site and have my guests ride an actual train. In Hawaii, on the island of Oahu, the best option is the Hawaiian Railway in Ewa.  I was lucky that a place like this exists for my train-themed party. The train station also had a picnic area for me to feed my guests prior to the train ride.  It was perfect! INVITATIONS - I designed my own invitation to include a photo of my son standing in front of the train with a Kaeden & Friends" cloud at the top train tracks and a train ticket with all the party details. PARTY DECORATIONS - Each picnic table had a paper placemat in the center with "Kaeden & Friends" cloud with a train track printed out in black/white. I went to the local thrift stores to buy toy trains for $1 to place on each train track. PARTY FAVORS - Bought wooden train whistles and wooden trains for less than $1 each for each child to choose as their gift for coming to the train party.  Had an area for the kids to personalize and decorate their wooden favors. TRAIN TICKETS for CHILDREN - I had each child wear a train ticket around their neck.  The train ticket consisted of a Thomas & Friends valentine card that I covered up with party stickers (got these after Valentine's Day at clearance - less than $.50 for a set of 36 cards). I put stickers on a couple of the tickets to giveaway prizes throughout the day. PARTY GAMES - Got empty containers and put a picture of a train in each one.  Rolled up foil balls represented coal to toss into each container for a simple toss game for the children. Printed out Thomas & Friends coloring sheets for kids to color.  Brought out train set for kids to play with actual train toys. PARTY CAKE - Ordered a cake with a train decoration.  Just having the party at a train station made our party unique.  This was the best party yet!!!"
