For my daughter's 7th birthday, she requested an Under the Sea party. So, the plans were in motion for a sea adventure. I checked this site for some clever ideas - and our basic party
theme was shaped...how fun.
The invitations were important to establish the plans of the day - so we printed them on ocean blue paper and included oversized wallpaper stickers (ocean creatures) on them that we found from the dollar store. The invites read: It's my 7th birthday adventure, under the sea...how happy I'd be if you joined me...As we play crabby games and go fishing" too...we'll explore the ocean October 27th at 12:00 noon. _________ is the place it will be...I hope you can meet me under the sea! They were signed by my daughter for a personal touch. They turned out precious. Throughout the weeks leading up to the party we picked up items - from the cutest shower curtains that we found at the dollar store that we converted to tablecloths to various fishy items for game prizes. The day before the party we converted our basement to resemble the sea. We picked up one of those sea scene setters from the party store (50 feet of wall runner) - we put it in one perfect area of our basement that the children would see first. We put tons of helium filled blue balloons in that area on the ceiling and taped various lengths of blue streamers to hang off the balloons. This was so neat - it actually look and felt like you were swimming through the sea. My daughter was so excited! Also before the party we had a huge Nemo that we found at a thrift store at the front step with a welcome friends sign. Also in advance we set the party table which was decorated in various shades of blue - centerpiece was various shaped sand buckets shovels and shells. We also have 2 pet fish in small tanks that we put on the table. As the children arrived the Little Mermaid CD was playing...and the children had some games puzzles blocks etc. set up in the sea area to enjoy. They loved the ocean setting! When all friends arrived we split the children up into 3 group for the craft stations we had set up. The stations were: create an ocean (using baby food jars water oil glitter shells etc.) make a ocean magnet and create a happy clam foam craft kit. All of which were lots of fun for the guests. After crafts were done we read a favorite Mermaid story and then we enjoyed lunch. Ahead of time we had made everyone a brown bag lunch - with a sign on them that said "My Catch of the Day." Inside it was the child's favorite sandwich (found out when they RSVPd) in a fish shape (using a cookie cutter) fish crackers bottle of water and fish fruit snacks. This made lunch very easy. For the few adults that stayed I had set up a food table with mini sandwiches sea shell pasta salad blue jello sea snacks etc. Additionally we made fish-shaped cookies and a version of Sonic's Ocean Water drink...that was super yummy! After lunch we enjoyed the under the sea cake that I made on-line...it turned out adorably and was very easy to create. Next we had games in store to play. We had created a Fish Bowl game - that was a simple bowling game into a box created to look like a fish bowl...the kids liked it. Next we had made a fishing game - where they would fish for a special prize...the guests absolutely loved this. We played pin the fin on the fish - which is always a favorite. We then played a dive under the sea game with an oversized blue sheet that I found on this site. This one we played over and over again as the kids loved it so much. My daughter wanted everyone to have some dancing fun in the sea - so they played the "Under the Sea" Little Mermaid song and played in the balloons/streamers for a bit. It was cute...so many smiles. After presents it was time to say goodbye. As a favor we had wrapped up fish-shaped cups (from the dollar store) in bags...and they took them and all of the crafts and game prizes home with them. It was really a wonderful fun time. My daughter said it was her very favorite party of all...and everyone is still talking about it. Thanks birthday party ideas for all the unique clever and creative birthday party ideas. "
