Under the Sea/Ariel Birthday. My youngest daughter turned 5. We transformed our family room into her Under the Sea world. We went to the local newspaper and they gave us the ends
of the newspaper rolls. We used those to color on and put a sand bottom, sea plants, fish and topped it off with all of the Little Mermaid characters. (We downloaded them and printed them off
on the computer.)We then used light and dark blue streamers on top of the paper to look like water. We have a stone fireplace and turned it into her Grotto. Complete with gadgets and gizmos.
Old glasses, shells, a framed picture of Eric(from Litte Mermaid) forks, spoons and old maps. We then blew up 100 light blue ballons and had them spread out on the floor. We also had a bubble
maker spreading bubbles throughout the room. It was a lot of fun to put together. As the children arrived we had them make their own fish. We pre-cut out pieces of foam shaped like fish and
little squares of tissue paper they pasted on them for color. They also added an eye. For games we played Pin the Fin on Ariel. Using a picture blown up from the web...I made 15 fins
for her friends to put on. As a prize they each got a little plastic closed shell with a mint inside( pearl).
I also had them sift through sand (cormeal) to find a jewel that we then put on a blue ribbon to make into a necklace for them. This is a big hit and I have done it at many partys. We then made Wave Bottles with glitter, shells, sea creatures, baby oil, blue food coloring and water.(Had to drink a lot of water to empty out enough 16 oz plastic bottles.) Add their initials so they will know whos is who when they leave. We then had lunch. Another thing I like to do for party's is make lunch bags. I have used small white boxes tied with curling ribbon but this time I used blue cellophane and tissue paper....put whale crackers, juice box and fish shaped Pb and J inside and tied it up with blue ribbon. It really decorated the table and the kids love their fancy lunches. The table had the typical party wear...plus beads, shells, tiaras for the girls and pirate hats for the boys. For dessert we had an Ariel cake and Blue Jello with a fish floating in the middle..topped off with whip cream. The kids loved diving into the jello to find their floating fish. We then played the Under the Sea game. The kids dove under a blue sheet and brought back sea creatures. Emily Emily dive under the sea and bring back a starfish to me. ( I found this game on this site) We then did a Pinata. With such young children...I make little bags ahead of time and fill them with equal amount of toys and candy. So when they break open the Pinata they each grab one bag and there are no hurt feelings. We then opened Presents and handed out goody bags. The goody bags also cellophane and tissue paper...complete with chocolate gold pieces, go fish game, stickers, and more candy. We had a great time. On a side note for the parents that stuck around we had shrimp cocktail, veggie platter and dill/ranch oyster crackers. I had three games on reserve if we needed to fill time....Found here, The Shamu Shimmy, Shark Shark Fish( duck duck goose) and lets make our own under the sea band. We had a great time putting this party together...sometimes I wonder what is more fun...the preparation of the party with my girls or the party itself.
