For my daughter's second birthday party we did an Under the Sea theme. We had a backyard bbq and pool/splash party. We had approximately 50 people in attendance including adults. Invitations:
For invitations I went to Hobby Lobby and bought small glass bottles with corks. I used white sand and mini sea shells to fill the bottoms of the jar. I also put a few drops of coconut scent
in the bottle to make the invitations smell tropical. For the invitation we printed them on beige paper. The invitations said: Under the Sea Under the Sea Come Celebrate turing Two with Me! I
then put a picture of her smiling next to a fish. I used the following for the information- Cast Off-Date Dive Time-Time and Port for the Address. I also made sure to include that there
would be swimming provided for the children. I rolled up the invitations and tied them with a natural raffia ribbon. I placed the invitations inside the bottles corked them and she hand
delivered the invitations to people who were local and then we mailed the other bottles in small manila envelopes to guests who were out of town. Decorations: Outside decorations:I covered
the outside patio's walls and cover with blue balloons to create the water. I hung fishing nets of varying colors from the patio cover and added beach balls and inflatable sea animals in
them. I added a big cut out of ariel in the center of the balloons. I placed a small battery operated bubble machine on the top of the patio cover to blow bubbles down onto the pool and
activity area. Table Decorations: For the tables I added small fish bowls with live goldfish inside and placed sand and seashells around the fish bowls. On a few of the tables I used small
seashell shaped bowls and filled them with goldfish crackers. I covered the serving table with a lighter blue table covering and then covered that with a darker blue fish net. Food: For food
we served tropical fruit out of a hollowed out watermelon. The adults ate grilled hamburgers and hotdogs. The children were served octopus hotdogs (hotdogs sliced half way up and then each
half sliced into 4 legs which curl up when cooked) and shells and cheese. We also had chips salads and drinks. Each child recieved their drinks in special water jugs with their names on them
that were decorated in fish stickers. This helped to not waste as many cups and keep them cool in the sun. She had an Under the Sea Ariel themed cake. It was a castle cake with Ariel on top. I
crushed up grahm crackers around the bottom of the cake to add the sand effect.
Fun: We had many water activites for the children to do. I had set up a few different pools a sprinkler and a water slide. (The ages of the children at the party varied). The pools varied from a covered baby pool to a medium sized blow-up pool. I also had a crab shaped sand box that I used to bury treasure in. I included gold pirate coins necklaces rings small plastic sea animals and other buried treasure. I had set up activities at small tables for the children to enjoy as well. We had sea animal coloring pages that I printed off. We also had Under the sea hats that the children could color and wear as well. I set out side walk chalk for the children to draw on the concrete patio and gave each child a small bottle of bubbles to blow at the party. We also had a fish pinata that we hit as the party wrapped up. Treat Bags: For treat bags I used small sand buckets and filled them with various items I ordered from Oriental Trading Co.I had small shell whistle plastic fish goldfish cracker packages fish suckers sea animal stickers and also the bubbles they played with during the party. Everyone had a great time and we are thinking about repeating this party again for my daughter's fifth birthday which will be coming up in July! "
