Under The Sea Theme - 6 year old We planned an "Under the Sea" theme party for my daughter's 6th birthday.  The invitations set the tone for the party. I used a ziplock sandwich baggie, and filled it with 1/2 inch to 1 inch of sand.  Then I added fish and sea shape party confetti. I used an aqua colored piece of card stock cut the size of the baggie and wrote the party information on it with a black marker. I also put fish stickers on the aqua cardstock.  The card read, "Please join us Under the Sea to celebrate Allison's 6th Birthday!" And then provided the other relevant details.  The party was held in our backyard.  We decorated the tables with aqua table cloths, and I purchased decorative fish at the local dollar store for table decorations. I also found sea theme seving platters and bowls.  We served gold fish crackers, grapes, strawberries, and red swedish fish candies.   The cake was purchased, and was decorated with a Nemo Under the Sea theme. We decorated with blue streamers and 3-D fish balloons.    Activities included a treasure hunt in the back yard.  All of the clues had sea themes and the treasure chest (an old trunk) contained plastic leighs and squirt guns in the shape fish. We have a stream in the back of our yard, and the last clue led the children to the treausre chest, which was "washed" up on the shore of the stream.  I read the book "Rainbow Fish" while the children worked on their craft, which was to decorate a rainbow fish.  We had a cardboard fish for each child to decorate using a variety of scales, which we had pre-cut from colored paper, inclding shiny wrapping paper to make shimmering scales. The scales were precut and in bowls on the table for the children to glue onto their fish.  The other craft was a wave bottle. We saved clear plastic soda bottles. We then filled them with water and oil and some blue food coloring, and added fish and sea creature confetti to the bottles.  We had different activity stations set up for the kids to rotate through.  One station was a bubble table with bubble wands of various sizes.  One station had a magnetic fishing game with poles to catch fish with magnets attached. We also had a station set up with buckets to toss sea creatures into. It was set up like the "Bozo Grand Prize Game"  with the buckets in a vertical line.  We had a seashell dig set up in the sandbox. We hid sea shells in the sandbox, and each child could dig for shells and select 2 to take home.  We also had a fish pinata with pull strings so that it was easy and safe for the kids to do.  And, we had a pin the scale on the fish game.  During the party we had the Little Mermaid CD and the Rainbow fish CD playing for background music.   Party Favors:  At the end of the party we had a clear glass fish bowl filled with water with a floating glass fish (A colored glass fish with a string and floating glass bubble to float on the top of the water to give the appearance the fish is swimming).  The glass fish bowls were purchased at the local dollar store, and I ordered the floating glass fish online at a craft store. The kids were thrilled with their "pet fish", and the parents were even more thrilled, because they didn't have a live fish to contend with!!!
