Dolphin birthday party for our 6 year old. This party theme was a huge success with the help of justdolphins.com  That website has tons of party favors, decorations, and presents for our daughter who was turning 6 years old. We kept the food and the decorations and the cake simple.  For invitations, we used brightly colored cardstock (turquoise and aqua marine) with stickers and a large dolphin diecut as the focus of the invitation.  I used the creative memory wave border to make the waves for the invitations using the aqua marine paper. The invitations were very cute, colorful, and simple!!   We made 3 crafts and had 3 different games. Our 1st craft idea was to decorate a white gift bag using dolphin and fish stencils (found at a teacher store). The children got to create and make wonderful under the sea creations. Our next craft idea was to make a dolphin suncatcher (something the children loved to do, since they had never made one before). I found these suncatchers at Michaels, but they also have them at justdolphins.com Our last craft was a turquoise cup we made into a pencil cup.  The children decorated the outside of the cup with all kinds of dolphin stickers.  Then we filled the cup with blue rice (regular rice that we added vinegar and blue food coloring), then each child was given two dolphin pencils. As pencil toppers, I found a small notepad in the shape of a dolpin (at a teacher store). You can also use diecuts of dolphins found at Michaels.   Each child was given  the dolphin notepad paper that they taped to the eraser of their pencils.  When they put their pencils in their cup (the rice made the pencils stay in place), it looked like the dolphins were jumping and swimming in the ocean. It was very cute!! Our 3 games were simple. Our first game was learning about dolphins and what they feel like.  I had a big rabbit fur cloth, sand paper, and a rubber boot. Each child got to feel each item and decided what the dolphin felt like.   Then we talked about what dolphins eat. I had a bag of goldfish, a tomato, and sardines. Some of the children wanted to try to taste the sardines.  That got to be pretty funny!! Then we talked about what dolphins sound like.  My husband made a CD of animal sounds and sporatically put dolphin sounds in throughout the whole CD.  The children loved to guess the sounds of the animals.  Our 2nd game was musical chairs.  The children pretended to swim together in a pod of dolphins and when the music stopped, they had to find a place to sit (we actually used carpet squares). Each child that had to get out of the game, received a small dolphin stuffed animal (from justdolphins.com).  Our last game, the children had to pretend they were dolphins looking for fish. My husband had hid bags filled with candy throughout our yard.  On each bag was a diecut of a fish with their name on the bag. The children loved to search for "their fish".  The party was a huge success and as my daughter said as she was eating her cake, "Mommy, this is the best birthday party ever!"
