For our daughters forth birthday we had an Under the Sea party. For the invitations we found under the sea/fish themed cards. I printed "Under the sea Under the sea Come celebrate
turning four with me." Underneath was our daughters name, Port: address, Cast off: date, Dive time, start time, Resurface: end time, S.O.S (RSVP): phone number. For decorations, we had
two pink flamingos with blue and green balloons tied to their necks in the front yard to greet guest as they arrived. We draped cyron blue, periwinkle, and teal crepe paper streamers on all
four walls of our garage. We draped the ceiling in the crepe paper as well only we staggered the streamers to give a wavy effect. We got a refrigerator box and cut it into the shape of a boat
then painted it metallic silver and hung it from the ceiling to look as if it were sitting on top of the water. We attached a fishing pole to hang over the side of the boat with a fishing
line and a plastic worm dangling in the water. Cardboard fish and sea horses were attached to the ceiling with clear fishing line to appeared as if they were swimming around. There was also a
fishing net in the water with blow up fish caught inside. We have an old trunk that we used for a treasure chest and had plastic jewels and coins falling out of it. A friend made us a sunken
ship with a mast complete with a "blow out" hole in the side, out of old weathered wood. It looked great and the children loved it! We purchased rolls of brown paper from Home Depot
(this is the paper you see in houses under construction to protect the floors) to put on the floor to give the appearance of a sandy ocean floor. We purchased a bag of sandbox sand and poured
some around the treasure chest and the sunken ship. A garden statue of a little girl was laid on it side near the ship to come across as a long last treasure. A bubble machine was blowing
bubbles across the room and a CD with ocean sounds was playing in the background. For the table we covered it with a aqua blue table cloth and put shredded blue and green glitter wrap on top.
As the centerpiece, we used a waterscape fountain with a mermaid Barbie sitting on a sea shell and a small plastic fish swimming around on the bottom. The food consisted of fish shaped tuna
sandwiches, a party mix with goldfish, whales and oyster crackers in a fish bowl with a fish net to scoop out the mix, starfish shaped chicken nuggets, shell shaped cheese wafers (I used a
Madeline mold to get the shape), and Hawaiian Punch Ocean Orange punch. For the cake I made a sheet cake and iced it blue and choppy looking. A small round cake was place in one corner of the
sheet cake, iced light brown and sprinkled with brown sugar to look like an island in the sea. I took a Barbie doll and removed her legs (they snap back on very easily) and put her waist into
the island. With icing I created a mermaid tail on the island. Clear piping gel was tinted blue and applied to the top of the sheet cake to look like water. On the sides of the sheet cake I
used different colored icing and piped fish, octopus', coral, sea grass and air bubbles. The cake board was larger than the cake so I put the light brown icing and brown sugar for sand on top
of the board and piped sea shells on the sand. For an activity, the children were given a paper plate and ocean scene stickers to decorate the plate. With a glue stick they applied sand at
the bottom of the plate and covered the plate with blue plastic wrap. The adults stapled the wrap to the edge of the plate. As the party ended and the children were leaving, they each
received a goody bag, which had been kept safely inside the treasure chest. Each bag contained a bottle of bubbles with fish swimming around the outside of the bottle, a notebook with an
underwater scene and matching pencil, a mermaid memory match game, plastic sea creatures, a bag of Dolphins crackers and a card with sea life trivia. Everyone left with big smiles on their
faces and a wonderful time was had by all! The atmosphere was so much fun that we left the decorations up for a few weeks so our children could enjoy "swimming around" under the sea.
