Rodeo Hoedown 2yr

Honorable Mention

April 2005

For my son's 2nd birthday, we did a rodeo hoedown! The invites were hand made by me with a rope western border.  It was in the style of a rodeo flyer! It read : Little "H" Rodeo coming to Auburndale!(title of flyer) Below this it read:  Howdy there Pardners!  We be needin' you towns people buckaroos to help celebrate Outlaw "Hollerin' Harley's" 2nd Birthday!  Ya'll get ready for the Rodeo Hoe-Down at the Constant Ranch on Saturday, March 13, 2004 at 12:30 pm.  So jump on your horse or do-si-doe on over for some tasty grub and boot stompin' fun!! Yee-Haw! Give us a holler at \*\*\*-\*\*\*\* to Reserve your seat today. Ya'll come dressed for a ropin' good time - y'hear! Other information on the flyer at bottom was: A rootin' tootin' time - that's our goal, We'll even take a dip in the waterin' hole! (for pool) Grub Menu  Hamburgers Hot dogs Chips Drinks Popcorn Peanuts   I had stars that had information on like : Special guest at 2:30, Star Cowboy Li'l Harley, Hay rides at 3:00, Wanted: Pioneers, Cowboys, Outlaws & even In-laws! Everyone loved the invites!  I made a western town out of Large refrigerator boxes, and stove boxes.  I cut one to look like "Stinky Pete's Saloon" with swinging doors! The "City jail" with paper towel rolls covered with Tin-foil to look like metal bars, The "1st Bank of the West", and the "Best Western Hotel" I put them in a row together to look like the city town! The kids loved to play in them and they made great pictures (especially in the jail)  I made a fire camp using real wood and yellow and orange tissue paper for the flames. I surrounded the area with hay bails, and decorated with lanterns and such.  This makes a great area to read a story, or for sit down games!  I cut out cactus' out of boxes and painted them to outline the yard. The tables were decorated in western table cloths, with tiny hay bails(from craft store) and a bowl of dry roasted peanuts for all to enjoy!  I served the hamburgers and hots dogs and chips in upside cowboys hats lined with bandanas!  I took a ton of pictues of my son dressed as a cowboy on a little fake pony and bought rope and created a lasso look on the wall as though it was lassoed around the pictures. I hired in a horse and pony for pony rides!  (the kids loved this the most!) We had hay rides down the street.    We made a cow cake for the adults and cupcakes that had cow spots for the kids (white and chocolate frosting)  I made signs to post up everywhere, they read: Outhouse(for bathroom), Grub Table (food table) Whistle Wettin' Tub (wash tub of drinks), Waterin' Hole (Pool), No Spittin' Chewin' or Drinkin' allowed! By order of the Sherrif, No Guns allowed! Rednecks Welcomed! And finally the biggest hit of the party - I hand made wanted posted and gave each child of the party there own outlaw name (Hollerin' Harley, Coyote Colton, Ty'em up Tyler, Rowdy Rylee, Bronco Bryce, etc.)  and took pictures of each of them ahead of time wearing cowboy hats. I used these pictutes on the wanted posters, and put a description below it for what they were wanted for (Example: Hollerin' Harley"  Wanted for screaming & yelling in the house and driving his family crazy!!!  Identifying marks: Long eyelashes, and He always walks on his tippy toes! Reward for turning himself in at the Birthday party: A Yee-Haw good time!) I printed these up first, the burnt the edges to look old, and glued the pictures on of everyone.  They were posted all over the porch and This was a gift they took home at the end of the party! Everyone loved them. The kids all received cowboy hats (that I turned upside down to fill) I used a bandana filled with western goodies and tied with raffia and place a sherrif badge on the outside. then placed all this inside the hat! The party turned out really nice - the best western hoedown we had ever been too!!!
