For our son, Chandler's, 1st birthday, we had a wild west party. All of the children were under age 4, so rather than organized games, I focused more on decorations. I made a old west town out of refrigerator boxes and a black marker and put on our front porch (Stinky-Pete's Saloon, "Best Western" Hotel, First Bank of the West, and the City Jail.)  We had a sign by the front door that said "By order of Sheriff Chandler, NO GUNS ALLOWED. Leave all weapons here.  Violators will be shot!"  We had a wash tub turned upside down with a pair of boots on top as decoration too. I used a saw horse and had stick ponies "roped" to it, looking like they were just waiting to be ridden by a cowboy! We had a banner that also stretched across the porch that said "Welcome to the Rocking Horse Ranch" (an idea I borrowed from Birthday Party Ideas). Inside, I had copies of old western movie posters hung all over our dining room and an old advertisement for Wild Bill's Rough Riders on the table. I had "wanted" posters of the children that were there with each one's picture, a nickname, and a crime. My son's was "Birthday Boy.  Wanted for breaking and entering cabinets.  Beware of this little charmer.  He's the fastest thing on hands & knees this side of the Mississippi."  My daughter's was "Wanted for theft of candy and unlawful use of markers. Beware of this bandit. She's armed with sugar and spice and willing to use it to get her way."  We used tin pie plates and had  IBC Root Beer (for the authentic look) set up in a corner in a wash tub with a sign that said "WATERING HOLE".  The kids were asked to wear western attire and we gave them deputy badges when they arrived.  We let them play with toys and "piggy-back pony" - thanks to dad - and "outlaw peek-a-boo" with country music playing in the background while we waited for the hamburgers to cook on the grill. I made haystacks and "cowboy beans" and we had chips, cake, and ice-cream. For the older kids, the movie "Toy Story" was playing in my daughter's room. Everyone said they had a good time and the kids seemed to as well.
