For my twins (boy and girl) We had a WILD, WILD WEST Hoe-down Birthday party. Everyone was put in the Western mood with an invitation stating that they would travel back in time to the
wild wild west and instructions to come in character.
They were greeted at the door by a sign that said, "No Spittin', Chewin' or Drinkin' and to check their guns at the door. The western music was loud and the dancin' wild! The room was decorated with ropes, haystacks to sit on, old cowboy boots, bandanas, Wanted posters of the twins with pictures included and everyone was given a cowboy hat at the door. The wanted signs were a great conversation piece as I had black and white pictures made and wrote their alias below (Bubby and Sissy). They were wanted for such things as riding a bike without a helmet, whining when tired and torturing his/her brother or sister. The identifying marks were freckles and wrinkling up her nose when she smiles! We had plenty of dancin' and ropin'(I put a horse on springs in the house and had the kids rope it from a specific distance. We had a cake walk for cupcakes (pieces of paper taped to the floor that said Happy Birthday and when the music stopped I called out a letter "H" and that child standing on an "H" won a cupcake) and everyone won! We then made picture frames out of cardboard and western stamps. After each child finished their picture frame they were escorted outside where they went for a real pony ride and had their picture taken (instamatic) and then lead around the block so that when they came back the picture was ready and in the frame. This was the goodie from the party to take home. Each twin had a horse cake (one chocolate and one Vanilla)and we served ice cream floats and peanuts. WE had 27 children in attendance! This was the best party we have had and my twins ask for the same one every year!!!! We haven't repeated it yet but I'm sure we will!!
