We celebrated our daughter, Rachel's, 4th birthday with a country and western theme.
The invitations depicted colorful cowboy boots and hat and read: "Howdy Pardners, Our little cowgirl Rachel is turning 4, Let's round up the fun to celebrate, Mosey on over to the Barras Corral (date given with address), Send the Pony Express with an RSVP (phone # given). We dressed her in cowgirl attire with black boots and a black hat. I also bought cowboy hats for each child to wear (there were 17 kids) For the goodie bags, we used bandanas and tied them with twine for a real western feel. The goodies consisted of candy, of course, but also a plastic sheriff badge and toy cowboys. Shortly after the party started and all of the guests arrived, Party Ponies (local to Poplarville) came with 4 Shetland ponies. The set up was similar to that of a merry-go-round. The kids loved it. The ponies stayed for one hour and each child got to ride several times (of course with their hats and bandanas on). After the ponies left, we sang happy birthday and opened presents. Some of the games we played included Pin the tail on the donkey, bust the cowboy piņata, and the 3 legged race. Our menu was typical western food...BBQ chicken wings, brisket, sausage, baked beans, potato salad, etc. Lots of the food was displayed in baskets with bandanas lining them. We also set up our oldest son's stereo outside with country music playing in the background. We hung western decorations from the trees and draped the tables in red and white tablecloths. Since we live out in the country on 2 acres, it was a great location for this type of party. But any setting could be possible. And I encourage it. It was so much fun and all of our guests seemed to really enjoy themselves, especially the birthday girl.
