Cowgirl Western Theme

Honorable Mention

November 2005

Tori in Kihei, Hawaii, USA

For my daughters 2nd birthday party we decided on a "Cowgirl" theme.   For the invitations i used a picture of my daughter in a little cowgirl outfit we had made for her a  few months prior. I made a speech bubble coming out of her mouth (like comic) saying "I'm turning  2!! Come to my rootin tootin jamboree!!" Underneath her picture we listed the date, time and for all  the kids to wear there favorite western clothes. The invitations were printed on cardstock (heavy  paper) and cut out bookmark style..it was really neat because we didn't need envelopes..and they were great for ppl just to stick on the fridge..all on one bookmark sized paper.  The party was held at a mexican restaurant that looks like an old time saloon. They are only open  for dinner so we were able to have the place to ourselves during the day. However...any living room  or backyard would work just as well. As the kids arrived we had them sit on wooden chairs against with a western looking background for pictures. They all looked so cute in their overalls and cowboy hats. We decorated with a western theme tablecloths. They were all white with just a western border so we put lots of crayons and markers along with more paper over the tables so the  kids could color on them. We played pin the tail on the donkey and the winner got to go "fishing for his prize" in the fishing hole. We put up a blue tarp and boxes on one corner where the kids would   throw over there fishing line (string tied on a stick) and someone on the other side would hook on a  prize from the prize box hidden below view. The kids LOVED the idea of the surpise prize on the end of the line. We made fish out of construction paper to glue on the prizes to go along with the "Ashlan's Fishing Hole" theme. We also played pass the potato. Then all the kids got a chance to go "fishing". For lunch we served a "Wild West Taco Bar" We had taco shells, ground beef, chicken, rice,  beans, lettuce, cheese and sour cream. Everyone liked making there own tacos. We had juce drinks  and soda. We also had placed "Trail Mix" in big bowls around before lunch for everyone to snack on. After lunch the kids enjoyed playing "ring around the rosie, london bridges...etc.." i brought along a  "toddler tunes" CD that was a lot of fun. Instead of one big birthday cake we made Cone Cakes. We  used a simple chocolate cake mix and followed the directions on the box..but instead of pouring a cake pan we poured the mix into party ice cream cones. (the short ones that have a big opening)  they were rainbow colors. Then you bake the cones in the oven according to normal cupcake  directions on the box. After we frosted them with vanilla frosting and put sprinkles and candy on top. IT WAS GREAT for all the young children at the party. They didn't need a fork or plate..the cone  was great for little hands and they all liked having there very own. We put 2 candles in my daughters cone and sang happy b-day. Even the adults like the cone cakes. We also did a rootin tootin root beer float station where each kid would come up to order there own root beer float.  After the party was over and the kids were getting ready to leave we handed out goody bags that we bought from oriental trading. They were bandana print bags (very cheap!!) and we put in  barnyard stickers, plastic ponies, suckers, bubbles, and sherriff badges. We also had lots of plastic cowboy hats and each kid took one of those home as well.  The party was sooo much fun people are excited about what we will be doing for her next party which is coming up soon!! This year will be a beach party..i'll let you know how it turns out!!
