Winter One-derland 1yr

January 2005

Tricia in Arroyo Grande, CA, USA

Winter "ONE"derland  My daughter, Taitem, turned one in December and I decided to have a winter party full of snowflakes and snowmen.  I made the invitations from light blue cardstock. The front said Winter  Onederland decorated with a white cardstock snowflake with a hole in the center, the hole was the "O" in Onederland.   A picture of my daughter's face showed through the hole, I had taken her  picture wearing a snow hat.  The front of the invitation was tied with a thing purple gingham  ribbon. Inside was her picture and all of the party details. I also stamped the envelopes with a snowflake and sprinled on some glitter.  Decorations:  There are lots of different snowflakes in the  stores in December, so we had some vinyl cling snowflakes on some of the windows and some  plastic glittery snowflakes hanging aroung the house with sparkly curly ribbons and a couple bunches of blue and lavendar ballons.  I also had some of my regular Christmas decorations around  the house for the winter theme.  Instead of party hats the guests were given scarves that I had cut  from fleece, lavendar for the girls and a dark blue plaid for the boys.  The plates and napkins were a cute snowflake print that I found at Target in their Christmas Paper Goods, much cheaper than other paper goods. Food:  The party was at 2:00 so we had lots of finger foods. Everything had a wintery name with a small name tag, Snowman Buttons-meatballs in a cherry sauce, Snowman  noses with dip-baby carrots with ranch dip, Hot Cheese Crab Dip with crackers-Melted Snow with  crackers, Starburst cut cheese with Snowflake Ritz Crackers-Snowflakes and Crackers, Snowman  Cheeseball (Taste of Home), pretzel rods dipped in white chocolate and then purple sugar- Snowman arms with mittens, Peanut Butter and jelly cut with a snowman cookie cutter.  The cake  was a stand-up snowman that I had seen in Parents Magazine and I also used a Wilton pan the made individual snowman cakes that we decorated for everyone to have their own.  We used fruit by  the foot for scarves, mini chocolate chip eyes and buttons and pretzel arms, they were so cute!   Game:  We played one game, "Pin the Mitten on Taitem". I had printed a large picture of my  daughter with her hands stretched out wide and mounted it on poster board.  I cut out mitten  shapes and they had each childs name on the mitten. The winner with the closest mitten to her  hand won snowman bubbles.  Party Favors: I had taken small white sacks, like lunch bags, and decorated them with craft foam hats and noses, button eyes and mouths and fleece  scarves.  Inside were small snowman things that I was able to find at Wal-Mart, candy, bubble  necklaces, pecils and some Snowman Peeps. Everyone had a great time!
