Winter Snow Party

Honorable Mention

January 2002

Winter Snow Party (indoors) Put white sheets completely over your kitchen/dining table . This is the igloo -welcoming area for your guests. If you want to be dramatic, put quilt batting on the floor under the table so the guests in the igloo will be cushioned.  As guests arrive, lead them to the igloo (holding area). When all the guests have arrived, everyone comes out of the igloo.  With white felt or if you're a knitter you can make stuffed felt or knitted "snow balls".  They are so fluffy that they don't damage furniture (but maybe hide the figurines). The guests can have a snowball fight.  Also there is a game of tossing all the snowballs into the  air and seeing who can catch the most snowballs on the way down. Next, give each guest a drinking straw and a paper cut-out snowflake.  Mark one line on one end of the room and another at the other end because we're having a "snowflake race". The participants have to blow, with the straw, their snowflake from one point to the other. The second part of this game is to suck with the straw and carry the paper snowflake back to the starting line. Another game is to split the group into two teams. We're playing "snowball hockey". You need a cotton ball and the kitchen table (with the igloo cloth now removed).  The teams have to hold hands and only with their breath (no hands or arms or feet etc.) do they strive to keep the cotton ball on the table at their end. The object of the game is to blow the cotton ball off the opponent's side of the table thus scoring a goal.  The table can be officially marked with a piece of tape.  Snack:  Dried Apple Ring Necklaces (elastic string) Food: "Blizzard Pizza" essentially a Mozzarella & sauce pizza. Cake:  ...you guessed it, Snowball Cake (white cake with jam center and white icing with either White chocolate shavings or coconut shavings)  Another game is "melt the ice cube" the object is to melt the ice cube first. Rule: you may not put it in your mouth.  You can breathe on it, sit on it, hold it in your hands etc. Note: have towels ready for the cold wet hands.  Goody bags: The knitted or felt snowball. Dried apple ring necklace. Paper snowflakes
