My daughter Miranda's birthday is in August, one of the last birthday parties in her class, so we have decided to make her 9th birthday party memorable by having a Winter in Summer
Party! Here are the details:
1. Invitations are on black paper with glitter and snowflakes! Kids are invited to wear winter clothing. Hats, mittens, scarves... The girls will run around in shorts, t-shirts, and snow accessories! 2. The basement is decorated with big snowflakes hanging from the ceiling, snow persons decorating the walls, and "fake snow" on the windows announcing Miranda's birthday. 3. A snow cone machine churns out fruity "snowballs" (snowcones) that the girls enjoy! Other foods/snacks include pizza and frozen banana pops. 4. We watch the movie Jack Frost at Miranda's request. The girls enjoy it! Other movies with winter themes will work, too. Popcorn and hot chocolate "warm" them up. 5. Contest: Each girl sings a winter song (Jingle Bells, Walking in a Winter Wonderland, etc.) and everyone wins a prize (most original, silliest, etc.) 6. Craft: creating paper dolls and winter outfits. Each girl creates her own doll with attire. You can use markers and/or fabric. The girls glue them together and then an adult puts contact paper over each doll to "seal" it together. A magnetic strip on the back makes it a refrigerator magnet! It is a lot of fun and a creative way to make a summer party different and memorable!
