For the invitations I used an image I got off the internet. It was of all 4 off them on the way to emerald city. I turned it into a watermark and then typed above the picture: Attention
all munchkins! The wonderful wizard of oz has requested your presence to help celebrate Karissa's 5th birthday. Just follow the yellow brick road to: Then I typed the address, time & date
over the watermark above emerald city. At the bottom I put *children may dressup as their favorite character*
The decorations were bought online and were pink and rainbow colors. I also printed a banner off of the DLTK website. I had a huge mylar rainbow balloon above the entrance to the party hall that we rented. I took the legs off of an old barbie and put white tights on them. Then I used electrical tape for the black stripes. Then I put ruby red slippers on them and sat a small doll travel doll house on top of it. This was sat up as a decoration at the buffet food table. We had 3 craft tables set up. 1) was making rainbow necklaces out of fruit loops and yarn (great for the younger siblings) 2) wizard of oz puppets from the DLTK website. I printed 10 out of each character and had plenty of craft sticks already glued onto paper towel rolls cut into half and lots of crayons. Then the kids just had to color their picture and then cut it and glue on to paper towel rolls 3) Shrinky dink wizard of oz charm bracelets.. For about a month before party I took images off the internet(ruby slippers, hot air balloon, rainbow and all the characters) I printed them onto printable shrinky dink paper. cut them out and then used a small hole punch. Then I baked them and they shrank pretty small so then I put jump rings in them. Then we used elastic bands and all kinds of beads. I let the children pick out their own charms, beads and elastic band. Then they put their charm bracelets together. The craft tables were such a huge hit we only had time for 2 games. Musical chairs was the 1st one. I drew a yellow brick road onto construction paper around the chairs. Then we played follow the yellow brick road over and over. Each child was given special Glinda bubbles (label I made using internet image) and a giant lollipop. The 2nd games was Pin The heart on the tinman. My friends husband drew an AWESOME tinman and we cut out hearts out of red construction paper. Each child wrote their name on it when the 1st arrived. After they pinned their heart they got a chocolate heart. Then we had a rainbow pinata filled with rainbow colored candy. The party food was a fruit platter in the shape and color of the rainbows, melted witch punch with a witch hat floating in it,rainbow colored snack goldfish, rainbow colored popcorn, veggie tray and pizza. I also had a ice bucket filled with different colored of ice. We had 6 colors made out of kool aid and then poured sprite over them in a clear glass. The cake was wonderful yellow brick road and rainbow and emerald city. We also had 12 cupcakes with wizard of oz ring on each one. The I had dipped ice cream cones and covered them completely in chocolate. The we scooped the Mint chocolate chip ice cream a little early so it melted a little bit. Then put the cones upside down on them.MELTING WITCH ICE CREAM. The kids all looked so cute in their costumes. We had one of each and 5 Dorothy's. I also had a few costumes I brought in case someone didn't have one. The party favor bags were homemade by me. I used 8 x 10 manilla envelopes. I covered them in gingham fabric and then put a picture of all the oz character I made on my computer. Then I typed thanks for coming to my party.....Love, Karissa. Then I cut the flap off it and then used my hole punch and tied it up with red ribbon. Inside the goody bags were a 8x10 wizard of oz puzzle (lucked out at family dollar), wizard of of sicker book, a sheet of Dorothy and glinda stickers, Wizard of oz coloring sheets, crayons and a bookmark I made off the dltk website. It has the scarecrow on it and it says If I only had a book" We also had one of those huge parachutes and at the end of the party we threw a bunch of rainbow colored balloons in it. The kids had a blast with that. We fit it into the party as the part with the hot air balloon at the end of the movie. Everyone had so much fun and said the only way it could be topped next year is with a pony. Your website is what made this party such a huge hit."
