Party Supplies

Our daughter loves the Wizard of Oz. So when it was time to plan her 2nd birthday there was no question as to what theme we would use.  I purchased all my party plates, napkins, cups table cloth, loot bags, invitations from Party City with the Wizard of Oz theme on them. I had a Dorothy dress made for our daughter, the birthday girl. She also wore ruby slippers.  I had her picture made in the dress with a sky back ground, and I placed one in each invitation that was sent out. We rented a local community center to have the party.  The local Sears store saved all thier washing machine and refridgerator boxes for me.  I used them to create scenes from the movie. I also purchased a sound track from the movie that we played throughout the party. We taped bright yellow tablecloths around the floor to create the yellow brick road.  along the yellow brick road we had Munchkin Land, the corn field, the apple tree forrest, the jungle, Emerald City, the melted witch, hot air balloon, and There No Place Like Home. As the guest arrived they were given an empty loot bag and told to "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" and they would find thier treats. In Munchkin Land there was the house that crashed on top of the witch.  We used one of the boxes and made a little white cottage house with a front porch, with windows on each side of the house with curtains and flower boxes attached to the windows. We used a Raggedy Ann doll's legs to represent the witches legs.  At this location the kids got giant lollipops for their bags.  The next stop on Yellow Brick Road was the corn field.  We had hay bales, cornstalks, and a scarecrow. at this location the kids got a diploma for their treat bag.The diploma read: Degree of Th.D. Dr. of Thinkology.  By viture of the authority vested in me by the Universitatus Commettatum of E. Pluribus Unum I hereby confer upon you the Degree of Th.D.  and it was signd by the Wizard. The next stop on the Yellow Brick Road was the apple tree forrest. We had a fake tree truck and a tin man.  His body was a large coffee can, his legs were spray paint cans, his feet were tuna fish cans, his arms were coke cans, his head was a 14 oz. vegetable can with a funnel on top. screws and a piece of wire for eyes, nose and mouth. at this location the kids got an apple, and a red heart with bendable arms, and legs.  the next stop was the jungle, we used lots of green plants and trees, and we took a childs lion halloween costume and stuffed it but when we displayed it we hid his face since he is a coward. at this location the kids received a gold medal on a red white and blue ribbon. the next stop was Emerald City. We used several boxes different sizes they were painted emerald green and we sprayed them with glitter. We hung a sign on the door that read Bell out of order please knock. At this location the kids got a horse of a different color. We used minature toy horses that we painted different colors, yellow, blue, purple, green etc.. the next stop was the melted witch. We used a black cape and Witches hat and laid them on the floor as if she was melting away we also took a straw broom that we burned the brissels off of it and laid it beside the melted witch.  at this location the kids got a Wizard of Oz puzzle.the next stop was the hot air balloon, I used a large cluster of balloons tied to a large square basket, at this stop the kids got a balloon. and the final stop on the yellow brick road was There's no place like home.  It was a basicly the same style house that was used in Munchkin Land. We just fixed it better. at this location the kids got a copy of the book Wizard of Oz. and some of the birthday girls favorite snacks, they also got a thank you card thanking everyone for coming and it also read: If I ever go looking for my hearts desire again, I won't have to look any further than my own backyard because if it isn't there I never really lost it to begin with. After the walk down the yellow brick road we had cake and ice cream, the birthday cake came from the local bakery. I had a picture of Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Lion. the bakery scanned it and put it on a icing sheet that went on the top of the cake. I used toy figurines of the carracters and emerald city as center pieces. I also used my mother's cookie jar that is a bust of scarecrow, tinman and lion. after the cake and ice cream she opened gifts and the party was over it lasted about 1 1/2 hrs. I think the pary was a grest success, with a lot of planning and hard work.  But my birthday girl is well worth it.
