7 year old birthday party for twin girls - Wizard of Oz Theme For invitations: made our own invites (computer program) with a rainbow and pot of gold on front cover. Inside
welcomed child to come over the rainbow and join us for the party all the usual party details.
All kids were invited to dress as their favorite character. My girls were Dorothy and Glinda. Dιcor: Yellow brick road used roll of yellow butcher paper and black marker to make a yellow brick road design and taped it to front steps and walkway. Witch legs used black tights and green electrical tape stuffed the tights and did stripes of tape, laid them by the front door with the feet inserted into ruby slippers. Event: As kids arrived, had coloring pages of Oz characters and scenes on seating tables. Each kid had a complete set of 7 pictures they could take home if not finished. Each kid was given a small gift bag with handle in a color of the rainbow to collect little goodies, first one being the coloring pages. When all kids had arrived, we began playing games. First game: Lollipop Guild - have kids sit in circle with a giant swirly lollipop played lollipop guild song while kids passed lollipop around. When music stopped, that kid was out. Kept going until 1 kid remained. Each kid was given a lollipop to put into their bag. Second game: Scarecrow stuffing (2 set ups 2 teams competed to stuff the scarecrow first) we stuck a wooden pole into the grass (and through one leg of a pair of jeans) with a smaller wooden pole lashed across. In a pile next to each pole was a pile of hay, a flannel shirts, a lunch size brown paper bag, some crayons, twine, cloths pins, and a straw hat. See which team gets their scarecrow stuffed first! Each kid was given a coloring picture of the scarecrow dancing with his diploma this was rolled and tied with a red ribbon to look like the scarecrows diploma. Third game: Pin the Heart on the Tin Woodman I drew and painted a large cardboard cutout of the tin woodman (chest, head and arms). I had red heart stickers with each kids name written on one. Blindfolded the kids and had them pin the heart on the tin woodman. Each kid was given a red heart magnet that my girls made before the party. Forth game: Roar like the Lion we made a mask out of a paper plate, felt and yard. Each kid wore the mask and roared like a lion. See who has the best roar. Each kid was given a 'medal of courage' a large chocolate coin, taped to a long purple ribbon that was hung around their necks. Fifth game: Melt the Witch I, again, did a large cardboard cut out of the witch and painted it, stapled it to our fence. Fixed a broom to stand next to her. Had a box of water balloons and each kid took several turns melting the witch. My daughter, dressed as Dorothy, got to take the broom and lead the kids back to the house. Snacks/cake: While the activities were going on outside, I transformed the kitchen tables into the Emerald City. Green table cloths, green plates/napkins/cup. Found great looking rainbow colored fancy streamers to hang from the ceiling over the table. Kids came in to snack green juice, green grapes, kiwi, granny smith apple slices, green jello cubes. After snack was cake. I made 2 pyrex cakes that I put together on a large board. Used white frosting with food coloring to make half blue sky, half green grass with a yellow brick road running through it. Sprinkled each area with sprinkles to make it glitter. Used M&M's to create a large rainbow across the sky. It was a huge hit! Girls opened presents, took a photo of each kid with the girls as they opened. Go home bags: they had collected coloring pages, lollipop, scarecrow diploma, heart magnet, chocolate medallion of courage. At the end we added a box of animal cookies that we had covered with an Oz photo on one side and Lions, Tigers and Bears, Oh my! on the other side. Thank you notes, again made our own with an Oz photo on the front. Girls wrote the inside. Had 16 guests and 2 honorees, spent under $100 for everything!
