My daughter just had her 3rd birthday and she loves Wizard of Oz, it always rains on her birthday so we had a rain plan and sunshine plan. We started by painting the Emerald City on our garage
wall and then we painted the floor green. We drew the yellow brick road on a yellow table cloth, (used a black magnum marker to make the bricks) and we taped it to the floor. I also made red
poppys (a lot) and stuck them in floral foam and placed them along the yellow brick road. Since we had a beautiful sunny day we made a rainbow out of helium balloons, so guest entered thru
the rainbow into the garage to the sounds of Follow the Yellow Brick Road,we took each childs picture in front of the emerald city with my daughter who was dressed like Dorothy of course,
girls were given crowns (like glinda and boys were given green wizard hats) and thru the house to the backyard, where there we had also painted the Yellow Brick Road on our grass. We Placed
different color balloons filled with helium along the yellow brick road, we stuck them in the ground with paper clips,(worked great), the road lead up to the first game, pin the heart on the
Tin Man, and then we played Hot Apple (instead of potatoe). when the kids lost they were award badges of courage, (i used red, white & blue ribbon and funky foam, got a picture of the
Cowardly Lion from the internet and made stickers and placed them in the center of the badge)...then the road continued to the pinata, which was a Lion. I always put toys and confetti in my
pinatas along with candy, so there is a great burst when the Pinata is broken. The kids love it!! After the games we had cake , which was the yellow brick road and green grass full of
poppies, I bought the figurines from enesco thru the internet. We had the Wizard of Oz Plates that i got from Birthday Express.com, along with all the coordinating napkins , and such. Instead
of ice cream we served rainbow jello. We also had witch cookies that we decorated like the Wicked Witch. After we opened presents I passed out Red Balloons to all the children ,24 of them, and
to some adults, we all clicked our heels and said "There's no place like home" 3 times and then released the balloons into the air. All the children and parents loved it, we had
about 60 people here. It turned out great. The boys and girls got to take home their hats and crowns, they also received a goodie bag/bucket with a Dorothy figure, stickers, bubbles wrapped in
fabric with a card attached that read " Glinda's magic bubbles"..rainbow jelly beans wrapped in gingham fabric with a card attached that read " a touch of the rainbow", a
scroll of color pages printed from the internet, and the girls received a magic wand too. It was a fabulous party children and parents both enjoyed. It was all worth it when my daughter saw
all the decorations, grabbed ny face and looked straight into my eyes and told me "Thank you for my Wizard of Oz party Mom , I love it!!"
