WIZARD OF OZ PARTY 4 yr. old This was my daughter's favorite party. She dressed up like Dorothy.
When the guests arrived, I had 3 "craft" tables set up. One was to decorate their own treat bag that was to be filled with all the prizes as the party went on. I got plain white bags from the craft store, letter alphabet stamps and rainbow stickers to decorate with. The second table was a "make a badge of courage necklace" We had gimp cut to size and the girls were to string cut up straws and buttons to make a necklace with. The third table was a "ruby slipper magnet" craft. I cut out slipper shapes out of balsa wood. I supplied glue and red sparkles that they covered the wood with. Then they applied a sticky magnet square to the back. I still see this magnet on her friend's refrigerators when we visit! Then we gathered for the yellow brick road game. I used yellow poster board and cut into about 11X11 size and drew a different shape on each of them. I spread the boards out all over the room. I played the music from the Wizard of Oz, and had the girls run around the boards. When the music stopped, I drew a shape out of my basket, and whoever was standing on that shape won a prize. They won a green beaded necklace to represent going to the Emerald City. Everyone, of course won a prize. Then I got out a large rainbow parachute that I rented from the library. We shook it up and down, and said, "Lions and Tigers and Bears" I had lion, tiger and bear whistles on top of the parachute, and as they flew off, each child received one for their treat bag. Then we separated into 2 lines to play 2 more games and win 2 more prizes! We did toss Toto in the basket, with a stuffed animal. They won a small stuffed dog. We also played "Pin the heart on the tinman" I made a tinman out of a silver tablecloth from the dollar store. Each girl used a heart sticker with her name written on it to place near the tinman's heart. They won a heart shape fan as a prize. After this, we sat for cake and ice cream. The cake was a ruby slipper and rainbow from the grocery store. After the cake, we played, "melt the witch" I had drawn a picture of a witch with a wipable black marker on a piece of white poster board, and made the broom out of a regular brown marker. Each girl got a chance to wear a witch's hat and squirt the picture with a water bottle. The witch started to melt (the marker ran!) It was a huge hit! The broom did not "melt". After this, we all sat on the parachute and opened presents. As the girls left, they received a coloring book of pictures that I got from the computer with a rainbow lollipop guild lolli attached. It was a great party. I got most of the prizes (dogs, fans, stamps, stickers) from Oriental Trading Magazine.
