My daughter had a Wizard of Oz party for her 4th birthday.
The invitations were made on the computer with downloaded Oz pictures saying "Follow the yellow brick road to Phoebe's 4th birthday party". I made a Dorothy dress and bought red shoes for my daughter to wear at her party (which she also wore for Halloween that year). The party was in the backyard and we have a sidewalk from the front of the house to the back that my husband was up until midnight putting yellow bricks on with yellow chalk. At the end of the "yellow brick road" we had rainbow colored helium balloons in the shape of a rainbow. We put "Toto" on the dog's house. Phoebe has a play hut that we had on the grass with stuffed striped socks sticking out from under the play hut with the ruby slippers on them. The kids made magic wands (star-shaped foam on dowels that they glued jewels on and tied colored ribbon on). Played stick the heart on the tin man. Listened to the Oz soundtrack and watched some of the movie. I found a Barbie torso with brown hair and made the cake where the cake is the skirt and you stick in the torso. I frosted it with blue and white frosting and put blue and white checked ribbon in the Barbie's hair. For party favors I had collected baskets at garage sales throughout the year and filled them with - Bubbles w/ a picture of Glinda, plastic Toto dogs, wizard of oz stickers, animal crackers with "Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!" and poppy flower seed packets.
