Wizard of Oz party My invitation was a cassette tape with bits and pieces of the famous lines of dialog from the wizard of Oz movie. I had a friend play, Somewhere over the rainbow after the
dialog and as the music played I narrated the special invitation, who, what, where, when and with a special notice , a colored sticker that was placed on the cassette, that color was the
color T-shirt that guest was to wear. The invitation also stated that the Wizard would not grant the party unless certain items were found. The list would be given at the
gates of Emerald City. DECORATIONS FOR OUTSIDE THE HOUSE The neighborhood was decorated with yellow bricks up to the house for the guests to follow.
We waited for the guests outside and when everyone arrived the games began. We had a game of relay twister. Teams chosen, Winged Monkey Team & Munchkins. The witches broom was held and as the player spins around ten times, they must say< There's no place like home, and then pass the broom on to the next player. Then the scavenger hunt list is handed out to the teams. Items are hidden outside and around the neighborhood at friends houses, like a stuffed heart, a badge of courage, a small witch doll, a fairy wand, a plastic brain, oil can, lollipop, stuffed Toto dog, basket, witches hat, green rock. The items are then given to the gate keeper and rainbow rings are given to the players. Nest game was Ding, Dong the Wicked Witch is dead. This is played with water guns and a tape player of the same song. Sitting in a circle a water gun is passed around until the music stops, at this time they can squirt the players to the left or right of them but is then out. Game is played until the last player is squirted. The door to the house was covered with rainbow fabric and the gate keeper then allowed the guests to enter Emerald City. EMERALD CITY TABLE- Green lights are placed in the light fixtures to cast an Emerald hue in a darkened room. The table is covered with rainbow fabric but sticking out from the cloth at the bottom is a pair of stuffed rainbow socks with ruby slippers attached, to simulate the house that had fallen on the witch. Colored candies, chips, and nuts are placed in flower pots lined with bright tissue paper. A round fish bowl is turned over and stuffed with white Christmas lights and a photo of child with friends, for crystal ball. I decorated a cake with the characters and a rainbow on it and the ice cream was a scoop of vanilla on a black plastic plate and an Oreo pointed cone on top. M&M's for eyes of the witch and painted on the lip of the plate was printed, I'M MELTING. The Goodie bag included a paperback version of the Wizard of Oz with a handmade bookmark of blue gingham and printed on the front flap, the date of the party and a special thank you, a Polaroid of all the guests in their rainbow shirts, skittles, and a copy of the words to, Somewhere over the Rainbow. As the girls ate, they watched the movie. Ever since, parents have stayed for our parties to see what happens next. The first part of the party was accidentally sent, I hope you can combine these for review. Thank you. P.S. My daughters gift was a handmade Dorothy costume which she proudly wore through the party with, of course, the ruby slippers.
