For my daughter's 10th birthday, we had an Around the World party. Since my daughter has many friends from many different backrounds, we thought this would be  a wonderful idea. INVITATIONS: For these, we bought stationary with a globe border. Then, we wrote  Happy Birthday in English, Spanish, French, Chinese, German, and Hebrew. We got  this information from a translation website. Then, at the bottom we wrote all the party  information (date, place, time, etc) in english.  DECORATIONS: in our backyard, we set out a buffet table to put all the food on. We  cut out a world map from an atlas and cut it down to the size of the table. Then, we placed it on the table and secured it with contact paper. Then we placed flags from many different countries around the lawn.  ACTIVITIES: The first game that the girls played was guess the language. We all sat it  a circle and I said a phrase in english, then in another language. The girls had to guess which language it was. The person with the most correct answers won a prize.  After this, I had my nieghbor, who is from latin america, teach the girls salsa dancing (if you don't have connections, you can hire a representative from a local dance  studio for a minimal price.) After this, the girls took a lunch break (see FOOD, below).  When they were finished with lunch, we completed the party by breaking a pinata in  the shape of a globe. FOOD: we served sushi (japan), pasta (italy), croissants (france). For the cake, we baked a vanilla one and decorated it with flags of different countries. We put a coin  inside, and the girl whose slice contained a coin won a prize - this is a canadian birthday tradition. In honor of Australia, we served Fairy Bread - buttered bread with colorful candy sprinkles. Finally, we served tiny candy fruits and vegetables; a  brazilian birthday tradition. FAVORS: for the party favors, we handed out swiss chocolate, postcards of different  countries, and other candies from different countries.
