The Zoo Party; Invitations are plain white cards, with cut out os animals from magazines, and then paper pasted over that after it has been cut out to look like cage bars. Or a plain
white card with animal paw prints leading from the cover to the inside (dip your fingers in paint and gather them together to make paw prints or cut out a sponge to make the print), glue
noses and ears to the sides of cups, make paper napkin rings with a sticker of an animal on them or make paper elephant or lion faces and glue them on the rings. Decorations can be
anything animal - animal print shelf paper, leopard-spotted cloth table cloths (use again to make Halloween costumes!), magazine cut out of animals hanging from the walls (tape together like
a banner and spell out the child's name. one letter per piece of paper, in the middle of te banner of pictures.
Clear party plates with a white/black zebra striped plate underneath it, or animal print plates, etc, from party store. Food can be sandwiches cut with a cookie cutter in the shape of paws, home made biscuit pizzas shaped like a bear's head (decorate with pizza toppings in the shape of mouth, nose, and green pepper ears and whiskers), curly "tail fries," a round cake with cupcake ears, decorated to look like a panda (gumdrop eyes, licorice mouth, black and white frosting), bananas and peanut butter dip. Games: 1) pin the tail on the zebra (you can get a donkey game and paint him black and white), 2) Zebra wrap (like the mummy wrap game only with TP and black streamers to make the zebra stripe effect), 3) Kangaroo bounce - attach paper bags around kids' waists with yarn, and have them hop across the room in a relay race to the next kid, transferring all items from their pouch to the next child, 4) Monkey Freeze - dance like a monkey in the old freeze game, 5) Pass the frog (or whatever stuffed animal you have, ala hot potato), 6) The old standby Feather blow relay game, 7) Animal trivia - show a portion of animals (hide them behind a paper), and give guests a piece of paper to write what they guess each animal is, or make it a Jeopardy game with questions about animals from the encyclopedia (fastest land speed, largest brain, etc) and let them write their answers, 8) Hunter - break up into two teams and study the room, then team A leaves the room while team B rearranges five things in the room and team A has to guess what it different (team with the fastest time wins), 9) Snake limbo - top limbo pole stuck inside a rubber snake. Favors: Glue paper palm fronds onto the sides of a plain paper bag, place an animal sticker or magazine picture in the "weeds." Oriental Trading has a million party favors for an animal party. Animals like frogs, elephants, leopards, parrot-type birds, lions, zebras, are all easy to find in dollar stores. Animal print bubbles and crayons are also easy to make by simply gluing a strip of animal print paper (check scrapbook supply stores) around the sides of the containers. You can also make animal print bean bags if you are the sewing type.
