My son's nursery theme is Noah's Ark, so I decided to use the same theme for his first birthday party. The cake table and decorations were all Noah's Ark theme. I decorated the house with
helium balloons (one for each child invited to the party) and to keep them at ~ 4 feet high we attached cardboard cards decorated with animal gift paper. I made a 9' round cake and bought a
rectangular pound cake to make the ark. I divided the pound cake in two rectangles and formed the ark. The round cake was covered with green frosting while the ark was brown. I made some
pairs of jungle animals with fondant (it was like modeling with clay) put three or four pairs of them like entering the ark. I also put some trees. Since most of my children's cousins are 3-5
year olds and there was only another baby like him, I planned an animal memory card game. I made an ark with two shoe boxes and cover it with brown paper and pretzel sticks. I also made a
pair of animals with blue & pink construction paper and glued them to white cards. Each child was to turn two cards and when he or she find the two that go together they would put then in
the ark.
They imitated the sounds the animals make and mimic them entering the ark. Each kid received a prize for finding the pair of animals. They had a lot of fun and helped each other, even some parents participated! I made favor bags with animal crackers and sweets. We had juice and finger food for the children like small sandwiches, fruit and cold cuts of meat. Since adults were going to be at the party also, I made more sandwiches and two dips with chips and soda pop. In the background I had children music all the time. We dance and after the games we sang happy birthday, opened the gifts and gave away the party favors.
