For my son's 5th birthday we'll be having a zoo animal
party. He asked his friends what their favorite animal was and we made construction paper invitations in the shape of the animals. For a craft we will make animal puppets out of paper plates glued to a wide Popsicle stick and construction paper. Instead of party hats I've ordered foam animal masks from Oriental Trading co. and the children can choose which animal they want to be. We will play pin the trunk on the elephant and elephant ring toss. I made an elephant piņata out of a grocery bag and paper towel tube that I painted gray and added eyes and big floppy ears. It is filled with animal fruit snacks and small zoo animal trinkets that I ordered from Oriental Trading Co. I made "crackers" out of toilet paper rolls that I filled with candy and wrapped and decorated like zebras(I used white paper and drew black lines around it). These are also in the piņata so that each child may take an even amount home and won't eat it at the party. The gift bags are brown lunch bags with small foam zoo animals glued to them and grey yarn glued in strips over them to look like zoo bars. During a traditional child fare meal(hot dogs etc)we will play an animal sound guessing game around the table. The cake is homemade in the shape of an elephant(my son's favorite animal). The thank you cards will be construction paper elephants with a peanut shell attached to the trunk and yarn attached for a tail and the elephant will be attached to a box of animal crackers. For a birthday treat at school he will be bringing cupcakes with an animal cracker on top and frosting striped over the cracker to look like a zoo. We
