Rolie Polie Olie Party

ROLIE POLIE OLIE PARTY A lot of party ware for this adorable show (that my   2-year old loves) is not yet available, so I have come up with a few creative alternatives in planning for his upcoming 3rd birthday...

INVITATIONS: These will be homemade on the computer using Rolie Polie Olie clipart (found online) and/or using Rolie Polie Olie stickers (I saw some of these at Wal-Mart).  The wording will be:  HURRAY AND HOWDY! RYAN'S TURNING THREE...JOIN US FOR A TOTALLY CHOCOLATE DINNER PARTY...BLAST ON OVER AT (DATE & TIME) AT RYAN'S HOUSEY.

DECORATIONS: Everything will be in primary colors. I'm going to make a sign for the front door that reads "Welcome to Polieville".  I would like to put polka dots on the front door, the walls and on the floor of the party room by using construction paper, poster board, and cardstock (or buying pre-cut circles).  I also plan to paint, color, or glue circles of various sizes onto primary colored tablecloths. The tablecloths will cover tables, and also be used as curtains and other decoration.  I also plan to put faces--or especially  eyes--onto everything (all appliances, furniture, fixtures, the cars, and yes, even the roof of the house).  I'll use construction paper, poster board, cardstock, and "wiggle eyes" to accomplish this.

There are Mylar (foil) Rolie Polie Olie balloons on www.partypro.com, and these will be added to the decor.  I plan to print Rolie Polie Olie graphics from the internet and hang these around; in addition, I will create stars, the moon, the sun and other planets (they all have to have faces) and hang them from the ceiling using fishing line. I will also print out Rolie Polie Olie sayings and put them on the wall--these might include: Howdy, Hurray, Super, Swell, and Okie Dokie.  Since there is no Rolie Polie Olie Tableware yet, mine will consist of plates, napkins, cups, and silverware in various solid colors.  I will then add either round primary colored stickers (for polka dots) or the Rolie Polie Olie stickers (from Wal-Mart) to the tableware. Or you could use the yellow smiley face tableware found at party stores (or at www.oriental.com).

FOOD: For a Totally Chocolate Dinner Party everything is, of course, chocolate! Items will include: Cake (with chocolate candy, like M & M's), Ice Cream, Cookies, Brownies, and Chocolate Milk--and any other chocolate items you would like to add. If you don't want to go with the chocolate theme you could also serve cake (I have seen Rolie Polie Olie cake decorations on several sites) with any flavor ice cream (in a cone), and "Jigglio" (Jell-O) if you don't want to go with the chocolate theme.

GAMES/ENTERTAINMENT: On the show, the kids play tag, play in a "rocket" (that could easily be made from boxes), have an airplane race, and a scavenger hunt.  You could also download Rolie Polie Olie music from the internet, or tape record it from the show.  Then use the music to do a "Rolie Polie Olie" round dance or the twist.  The characters on the show are basic shapes, so you could draw a large Olie--or any of the other robots--and then play a game of "Pin the antennae on Olie", etc.  Put in one of the Rolie Polie Olie videos (or pre-record some of the episodes) and let the kids eat their food while watching it. There is also a trampoline on the show so you could use your trampoline (if you have one) as part of the party or you could go all out and rent a "Moon Walk" (those things the kids bounce in). I also found a Rolie Polie Olie piñata on www.partypro.com that will be filled with the favors below. The kids will take turns pulling the strings.

FAVORS: Homemade antennae (made by wrapping plastic headbands with chenille stems, and attaching a pom-pom to the top). The antennae will be given upon the arrival of each child. Other favors--all found on www.oriental.com: harmonicas (Zowie loves hers), airplanes (to race), Rolie Polie Olie coloring pages (found with other Rolie Polie Olie stuff on http://www.harperchildrens.com/hch/author/author/joyce/ rolie.asp) with crayons, Frisbee, punch ball, bounce ball, star stickers, gum balls, bubbles, and yo-yo's.  These will all be packaged individually and put into the piñata mentioned above.  I really hope that this will help other parent's whose children LOVE Rolie Polie Olie as much as mine does.  Pay close attention to the activities, decorations, foods, etc. on the show for more ideas.  May you all have a SWELL Rolie Polie Olie Party!
